In May 2007, what started over a coffee between two mates quickly progressed to become the Tour de Cure, an Australian charity that launched an annual cycling tour. As a co-founder of the Tour de Cure, Gary is often asked to speak about his experience and the journey to becoming Australia's leading cycling foundation.
Since its inception the Tour de Cure has annually cycled through Queensland, New South Wales, SA, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania. The 2016 10th Anniversary Signature Tour will see our team of 140 Riders, 40 Guest Riders and 38 Support Crew retrace the inaugural route from Brisbane to Sydney, adding a twist to take in some wonderful Tour de Cure communities along the way. The team will travel 1,470kms over 10 days, enjoying the magestic coastline and wonderful Northern Tablelands region. The Tour de Cure will visit over 5,000 kids sharing the ‘BE FIT, BE HEALTHY, BE HAPPY’ message and raising funds for cancer research, support and prevention projects for men, women and children.
To date the Tour de Cure has raised in excess of $22 million and funded 204 cancer research, support and prevention projects, leading to 16 cancer breakthroughs.
