It must be frustrating for artists and performance who are on stage, and giving it their best, and look out to the audience to see many of them looking through, or looking at their telephone.
Artists like Alicia Keys are using a novel new San Francisco start-up called Yondr which is a small case given to each person who attends the concert in which you're supposed to place your telephone. Once inside the venue the case locks and the only way you can get to your phone, make a call or take a photo is to step outside of the venue. The company says it is trying to liberate the artist and encourage people to focus on what's in front of them instead of recording or being distracted by messages. Interesting idea however you have to rely upon the discipline of the attendees to actually declare they have a phone and place it in the Yondr pouch. This idea should be mandatory for every school event with parents placing their phones or iPads in a lockable pouch so kids see their parents faces and reactions in real time!
