If high-performance motorsport events like the Indy 500 was an event that happened with no actual human drivers in the cars, would it be as popular? … Would it pull over 400,000 spectators? That may well be the future with much smaller events happening around America where teams are entering their own designs of customised self driven cars based on artificial intelligence. The AI systems guide them around the track.
Roborace is such an event and is at a point where they are now designing an appropriate vehicle that could race using AI. The series is aimed to serve as a testing ground for autonomous technology, artificial intelligence and more computing power where, given the cars are almost identical, what will separate them will be the engineers and the data programmed.
